US to create robot surgeons for the army

The Pentagon awarded $12.2 million (£6.6m) in grants today to develop the unmanned "trauma pod".
The researchers who presented the idea to the US Defence Department have prepared a futuristic "concept video" that is like a teenage fantasy game, showing - with full colour and sound effects - robots in unmanned vehicles operating on soldiers under enemy fire and then evacuating them.
The "trauma pod" would be linked to army command with wireless technology without giving away its position to the enemy, and has to be nimble and hardy enough to perform under fire.
