After Admitting it 'Dropped Ball,' AP Produces Tough Piece on Memos

The Associated Press, late to the story, obtains and verifies six of the "Downing Street" memos. In one of them, from 2002, a British foreign policy official writes: "U.S. scrambling to establish a link between Iraq and al-Qaida is so far frankly unconvincing. For Iraq, `regime change' does not stack up. It sounds like a grudge between Bush and Saddam." AP also published numerous excerpts from the memos.
